My Review
It has been a long time coming but I have finally started the Soul Screamers series, since the last book in the series was released last month. I didn’t want to begin it until I had all the books because I didn’t want to be left hanging for the final book, so here I am, kicking back and enjoying the ride!!
Alright, so let’s jump straight into the book! Kaylee struggles with what she believes are panic attacks. They hit her with full force and she needs to put distance between herself and the person that triggers the attack. If she loses control, she shrieks so loud that it could wake the dead ;) . Watching her trying to keep control is both captivating and emotional. It is amazing how strong willed she tries to be and it’s sad that she has to go through this without knowing the reasons why. And what hurts the most is that it appears she is being kept in the dark about it all by the people that mean the most to her.
Kaylee is an amazing person. Even though she has a lot to deal with, she grows so much in a matter of days. Not only does she meet a guy that understands her, but she learns so much about herself and truly doesn’t miss a beat. She also cares about people around her and wants to do everything she can to protect them whether she knows them or not. She also deals with the normal teenage dramas, not wanting to cause a scene in case it gets around at school, family is always drama and the popular boy at school has shown interest in her. However, she is smart and capable enough to deal with it all.
Nash I liked in the beginning as he seemed to understand Kaylee. The more time Kaylee spent with him, the more we learnt about him and eventually details were revealed. I could kinda see it coming, but I could also see him keeping things back where Kaylee was like an open book. There were hints dropped throughout the book which I didn’t piece together either, so I was a bit bummed with Nash in the end, but he is still good for Kaylee.
There are a number of reasons that I enjoyed this book. Firstly, I really enjoy Rachel Vincent’s writing style. I’ve read her shifter series and I have begun the Bound series as well (next on the hit list ;) ) and every time I get swept away in the world she builds and I fall for the characters she creates and I find it soooo hard to put the book down. Secondly, for a Paranormal lover like myself it was great to meet a new character that I haven’t really dealt with before. There are so many Vampire, Fairy, Demon books out there that to be introduced to a banshee/bean sidhe it was like a breath of fresh air! And thirdly, I was fascinated by the plot!! Not only did Kaylee have to discover things about herself, but together with Nash they were trying to uncover the reasons for the deaths of young girls in the area. As you can see, it sounds amazing and doesn’t lack in swoon moments either! Now, I must dive into the next book, My Soul to Save…
