Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she's at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past . . .

She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die just to see her again. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen's triumphant return.

Celaena’s epic journey has captured the hearts and imaginations of millions across the globe. This fourth volume will hold readers rapt as Celaena’s story builds to a passionate, agonizing crescendo that might just shatter her world.

The Throne of Glass series has been a helluva ride so far and Queen of Shadows is another must-read instalment! Aelin (Celaena) is my all time favourite female fantasy heroine and she continues to amaze me as she grows into the strong leader she is destined to be. She’s continually plotting and planning ways to kill the King of Adarlan, and to stop the Valg Princes.

Aelin has returned to Adarlan, and right from that first chapter I could see that she was already planning her scheme. She faces down old enemies and recruits those she can rely on to lend a hand. Her first mission is to free her cousin Aedion from the king and I loved everything that she did to set it up. I could see that she was struggling a bit due to not having her magic and without Rowan at her side, but she always manages to find a way.

I liked seeing Manon’s perspective too; she is seeing a lot of evil at Morath and is conflicted in regards to her Grandmother, Duke Perrington and Vernon. Things are happening that are twisted and Asterin (her second) pushes her constantly. I like that she’s her own person and is beginning to question her beliefs.

I love the way Sarah J. Maas has built this world and the direction she has taken in Queen of Shadows. I was swept away in this fantasy world and the twists that were thrown in. There were a few huge, action packed show downs that had me eagerly flicking the pages to see if it all went to plan. Aelin forms a few unusual alliances, there was plenty of murder and mayhem, and a few tender moments for Aelin too. I liked the way Queen of Shadows ended, but the battle is far from finished… Bring on the next book!

Rowan remained rooted to the center of the room as Aelin climbed into bed and blew out the candles. He stared at her through the darkness.
She said softly, “You make me want to live, Rowan. Not survive; not exist. Live.”
He didn’t have the words. Not when what she said hit him harder and deeper than any kiss.
So he climbed into bed and held her tightly all through the night.
