EXCERPT
“For a shadow of a second, I stared into his eyes, shocked, horrified he'd do such a thing to me. A thousand fears filtered through my frigid brain. Was he in cahoots with Loki? Or was he Freya's dog all along?
It took an eternity for him to blink. Even longer for me to blink.
Then Fenrir pushed me and I fell off the cliff, into pure white oblivion.”
DESCRIPTION
Valkyrie-in-training Bryn Halbrook just can't catch a break. With her boyfriend stuck in Hel and the taunting laughter of Loki still ringing in her ears, she struggles to concentrate on her training and duties in Odin's realm. The last thing she expects or wants is more adventure—but then treachery, a shocking abduction and a chilling discovery send her forth on another perilous, globe-hopping mission.
As the ultimate battle, Ragnarok, draws closer, it's a race against time for Bryn, Fenrir and their team to discover who kidnapped her foster brother from the halls of Asgard and what's causing the mysterious deaths of so many of Odin's chosen warriors.
In the exciting sequel to DEAD RADIANCE, Bryn encounters dwarfs and dragons, new friends and old foes—but the worst enemy of all may be the person she trusts most!
Dead
Radiance, Book 1, ended on a cliffhanger, and I wasn’t too disappointed because I knew
I was able to read Dead Embers immediately. Now that I’ve finished Dead Embers,
I’m bummed because I have to wait until March 2013 for Dead Chaos (Book 3) to
be released!
Dead
Embers takes off from the very minute that Dead Radiance finished, so I was
happy that I didn’t miss a thing. Dead Embers has a lot more action than the
first book, and as you all know, I am an action junkie, so I couldn’t help but
keep turning the pages to see what was going to happen next!! T.G. Ayer was
able to keep the story rolling perfectly, kept me intrigued and left me wanting
more!!
Aidan has
gone to Hel but the world still functions around Bryn and soon she decides to pull
herself out of the slump that she is in and do her duty as a Valkyrie. With all
of the turmoil that Bryn experienced in the first book, it was going to be a
matter of time before things started to click for her and she understands more
about being a Valkyrie. She learns that she has strength and that she should
trust her intuition a bit more. And are those wings just for show??
I liked
Bryn after DR, but now that I’ve read DE, I love her. She is definitely coming
into her own person, being more independent and strong willed by completing her
own missions. But when she is in a group situation she takes a step back
instead of voicing her opinions. She is the only ever person that was born a
Valkyrie, so she tries to stay out of the spotlight where possible. She thinks
too much like a human and trusts people too easily, even when she is warned by
two different people to be weary of the people around her.
Most of
the characters from DR make appearances in DE too. There isn’t one that I don’t
like, whether they are evil or not. Even Loki, he is still able to manipulate
people without being seen, but he brings spice to the story. In DE, Thor is
introduced to us. He is the perfect male God, super hot, confident and is also
the God of War and all the girls over him. I was hoping to see him interact a
bit more with Bryn, but they are both very professional in their brief
conversations.
Everything
seems to be happening for a reason, and a few of my unanswered questions from
DR fall into place, but a whole lot more open up. It all seems to be leading to
Ragnarok, the war that has been prophesied for centuries. And Bryn is a big key
in the game. I love the buildup of this story, there is going to be a massive
showdown ahead and I can’t wait!!
About the Author

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands – I shall forever remain cross-eyed.
