Peace Blitz 73rd anniversary of the crash of the G-AESY 15th Aug

Peace in Australia

It is nice to live in a world where there is peace between most of the countries. Most of us are able to live without War or conflicts with our neighbouring countries. However there are some countries that are still unable to find that peace.

Australia has participated in numerous wars- WWI, WWII and the Vietnam War. We sent troops to Iraq and Afghanistan years ago and some are still serving there today. They are actively trying to help keep the Peace in these countries which are struggling to maintain control in their own backyards.

The citizens of Australia never forget those who served our country. On April 25th each year we celebrate Anzac (which stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) Day. We remember all of the people that were sent to War, who died during battle and those who made it home. They served their country to allow us to live in Peace today.

We also celebrate Remembrance Day which is held every year on the 11th of November to commemorate the end of hostilities of WWI. The war officially ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" of 1918. In Australia, no matter where we are at 11am on the 11th of November we stop and have a minutes silence to remember all the brave men and woman who lost their lives and fought for us during WWI. Remembrance Day is held all over the world.

On these special days, Australian Citizen’s March for them, pray for them and we remember them.

  3. Great post! The two minutes silence, also observed in the UK of course, has always been very moving for me. More so now when you realise the declining numbers of veterans each year.

    1. That's true, but usually family members step up to fill in now! That makes it great for them to remember.
