Title: Stripped
Author: Brenda Rothert
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Published: May 27th 2013

Abby Gillis is used to being called a promiscuous, uneducated whore. It’s all in a day’s work when you’re a stripper. Since her job allows her to support her siblings, 24-year-old Abby takes it all off in stride. She’s never had trouble keeping men at arm’s length – until she meets ER physician Chris Reneau, who is sexy, sweet and interested in more than what’s beneath her clothes. As their relationship unfolds, Abby becomes increasingly aware of the desire building in her for the first time, and of her yearning to be wanted by the one man who truly sees all of her.

Commitment-averse Chris finds himself in uncharted territory. He wants Abby, that’s clear, but he can’t accept not having all of her. As the distance between them erodes, he tries to convince Abby to give up stripping for a chance at something real.

As the two of them get closer, Abby realizes that truly baring it all has nothing to do with her body. Chris makes her feel more exposed than she ever has, and she has to grapple with what’s left when her notions about herself and those around her are stripped away, leaving only the naked truth.

I was excited to start Stripped because I wanted to know what it would be like for a stripper to fall in love. It must be hard to be in this kind of work, and then have to deal with a relationship too. Stripped is a fun read, but it manages to deal with some important issues and everyday lives.

Abby is more than a stripper as we find out. She is smart and beautiful with a kind heart. She actually works two jobs, one for the insurance, the other to support her family: brother in college and two young sisters. Her mother is living with her as well, but is more of a nuisance than anything. Abby is a well liked person and she likes to have control over all aspects of her life. She finds it hard to accept help from people, who she knows she can trust. It was nice to see her step out of her comfort zone and build a new relationship.

Chris is an awesome guy. He is honourable and a gorgeous doctor. He doesn't remember where he met Abby in the beginning, but soon their connection grows and they began to spend more and more time together. You can see that there are sparks and Chris takes everything about Abby pretty well. He becomes very protective of her and they are able to open up to each other. I enjoyed watching their relationship grow, they are a good together, and make a cute couple.

I loved the concept of this story and watching Abby and Chris' story unfold, but unfortunately I feel that I wasn't able to connect to the characters as much as I would've liked. The characters are very honest to each other, in my opinion a little too honest. And Chris expects Abby to change her ways immediately while they continued to have that yoyo relationship – friends or more, back and forth. But there is no denying Abby's commitment to her family and Chris wants to support her no matter what. They are able to work together to make themselves better people and lives. However, it has not in the least turned me away from this author. She has done a remarkable job and I would definitely check out more books from her in the future.

I received a copy of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review.
