Book Description
Jonathan McKnight lost everything in Afghanistan. His left hand, his identical twin, his self-respect and his naive belief that good always triumphs over evil. Burdened by grief and guilt, he searches for redemption on a solo backpacking trip into the remote Sawatch Mountains of Colorado and discovers a secret tribe of shifters.
River, the beautiful young shifter that rescues Jonathan has been promised to a man she despises. A man that does not desire her and only wants to use her to achieve his own political goals. Jonathan is more than a romantic rival. He’s a threat to those goals.
The only way to save Jonathan’s life is for River to take him as her recruit.
As Jonathan learns more about the horrors of River’s cult-like society, he becomes even more determined to escape it, until he learns that River is responsible for everything he does and will be executed if he succeeds.
Escape is not an option—unless Jonathan can persuade River to leave with him. And if she refuses? Well, then, he’ll just have to kidnap her.
My Review:
What can
I say but ARGH!! I was hooked to this book and its amazing storyline!! I kept
flipping the pages, then BAM end of book!! OMGosh!! What will I do until the
next book comes out? I need to know more now!!
Anyway,
let me explain a little more of the amazing journey that I went on. River is a
wolf shifter who has been living with Rueben outside of the Sanctuary, since
the death of her mother 5 years ago. The two wolf clans all follow very strict
rules in their day to day lives, where the tiniest infringements come with
harsh penalties, eg. you many have your finger removed for taking an apple from
your families rations.
River is
eager to merge with her wolf and to be mated. While she is out tracking a herd
of goats she comes across Jonathan in the woods. River maybe a petite girl for
18, but she has a big heart and a bigger mouth, she is not one for holding back
and standing up for what she believes in.
She gives the men around her a run for their money!! She is very
passionate about her work and family and would give her life for them if she
could.
Jonathan
has had a courageous journey up until this point. He has been through so much
in six months and there were times that I cried with him because it would be so
hard to deal with what he has. And to feel the rejection of one of his parents
is just sad. All the what if’s….. What if I didn’t go…or What if Franklin
lived… We aren’t able to change the past, so Jonathan has to deal with his
feelings and try and move on. I really like Jonathan, he is an amazing man and
I fell for him from the very beginning. He is willing to put himself into
danger to protect others. It is probably why he was a good soldier in the army.
After Jonathan
stumbles across River in the woods, his priorities start to shift and he is
able to open up and start to care about someone else. River is unable to tell
Jonathan about her heritage, he needs to try and figure it out for himself.
Jonathan thinks that River is part of a cult who all live a very primitive
life. He wants nothing more than to take River and break this cult down. But, of
course, there is a Prophecy that is starting to unravel around them, which is
slowly building up.
Charlotte
captured my attention from the Prologue and I found it difficult to put the book
down. It was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster ride in the beginning and then
we move into the relationships of the characters; Jonathan befriends River’s
family and both Jonathon and River need to deal with their attraction to each
other. The plot was amazing and I loved how she developed her own way of how
shifters are created, it was a breath of fresh air to read a new concept in the
shifter world. The book did end quite abruptly, just when I was getting right
into the drama!! I really want to know
what happens and I will be eagerly waiting for the next book!!
Bio:
Charlotte Abel was born and raised in Oklahoma where she met her soulmate, Pete. She chased him to Boulder, Colorado and finally convinced him they were meant to be together forever. They've raised three kids, two ferrets, three dogs and countless hamsters -- and are still happily married.
She's in love with "real" life and paranormal romance. When she's not reading or writing, Charlotte enjoys hiking, bicycling and primitive archery (although she's never shot at anything other than a target!)
The final book of The Channie Series, "Finding Valor," should be available by Christmas.
