Seducing the Defendant by Chantal Fernando ~ Review & Swoon Thursday (@ChantalFernando, @GalleryBooks)

I'm continuing to enjoy the Conflict of Interest series and the hot lawyers that work at the firm. Jaxon was as hot as I hoped he'd be and ruthless when needed. I cannot wait for more from this world!

New York Times bestselling author Chantal Fernando returns to her latest, steamy Conflict of Interest series with this electrifying tale of murder, justice, and intense attraction.

Jaxon Bentley is a hardnosed criminal lawyer whose entire life revolves around his work. He’s been asked to represent Scarlett Reyes, a woman accused of murdering her police officer husband in cold blood. All the evidence points to Scarlett being guilty and Jaxon is sure it’s an open and shut case.

But when he meets his client, he can’t help but feel that she’s innocent and that there’s more to the story than meets the eye. With a bit of digging, he uncovers a connection to the notorious Wind Dragons Motorcycle Club and realizes that Scarlett’s case is a complicated and difficult one. It certainly doesn’t help that the two share an immediate and passionate attraction. Will Jaxon be able to prove Scarlett’s innocence or are the two doomed to fail both in court and as a couple?

After reading the first book in the Conflict of Interest series, I knew that I wanted more! In Breaching the Contract, the romance was sweet and there were a few twists thrown in to keep the reader interested. Seducing the Defendant was different from the first book, as it was tied to a series also written by the author, and the romance was more intense as the couple worked together.

Jaxon was such a great guy! He took on Scarlett's case and did everything he could to help her get her life back. He had a few demons that he was still trying to deal with. I could also see his growing attraction for Scarlett, and I knew they'd be sizzling together.

Scarlett was determined to prove her innocence, and it was good for her to give that control to Jaxon. I felt sorry for her and the predicament that she found herself in, but it was good to see her grow into a stronger and independent woman.

Jaxon and Scarlett's attraction built while working on Scarlett's case, and boy were they hot together! They slowly let one another in and were able to face their demons together. Again, I felt that the story was rushed in a few places and would've liked some threads expanded on, or not wrapped up as quickly as what they were. It's not going to stop me from reading the next book in the series though! I'm loving the men at this firm!

Hmmm... I loved this moment, a girl trying to win over her man!

When I get to Scarlett’s, dinner is on the table and she’s dressed in red lingerie. Holy fuck.
“Wow,” I mouth, walking over to her and giving her a kiss. “You look fucking sexy.”
“How hungry are you?” she asks me, pushing my jacket off my shoulders and letting it fall to the floor.
“Hungrier for you than for food,” I reply, lifting her into my arms and pushing her back against the closest wall.
