Wow… I was blown away by this debut novel by Eve Jagger, and now I’ll have to grab the other books in the series, because the guys I met in this book were yummy, alpha male types, which I love! This book was about Cassie and Ryder; Cassie was hiding secrets from her past and Ryder was determined not to be hurt again. However, their pasts resurfaced and they had to get past them to find their happily ever after.
I met Ryder first, and I could tell he was a dominating man; he was focused on business and he stumbled across Cassie chasing down a debt owed to him. What he didn’t expect was that the fiery blonde would turn up and try to help reduce the debt her brother owed.
These two had instant chemistry and I loved how they flirted with each other, pushing it to the limit until they had to take the next step. It was fast and hot, and ended all too soon… but I knew it would happen again. Cassie and Ryder just fit together, and all Ryder’s friends were happy to see the old Ryder back again. He opened up to Cassie, however she held back. I guessed her secret earlier in the book, but I still enjoyed how it all unfolded. Her story was kind of heartbreaking, but I was happy to see her trying to get her life back on track.
I enjoyed the pace of the story and found it hard to put down because I was just waiting for the bomb to hit. I liked that I got both Cassie and Ryder’s perspectives, to know what they were thinking and feeling. I was introduced to some interesting secondary characters: Cash, Jackson and Shelby in particular, and I’m keen to learn more about them. Eve Jagger has an easy to follow writing style and will be grabbing more books from this series for sure!
I have three teasers from HARD today. I just loved how feisty Ryder and Cassie were. They never held back what they were thinking!
“Promise me one more thing,” he says. His lips almost brush my ear, the proximity a tease, like a ghost of a kiss. “That the next time you try to suffocate me, you’ll use your thighs instead of a pillow. It’d be a much more pleasant experience for us both.”

“See you then.” I stand, picking up the laptop and piles of paper. “Oh, and in case you don’t recognize me, since apparently waitressing here requires such a transformation, I’ll be the hot one doing math in her head.” I lean toward Ryder, my lips close to his ear. “No push-up bra necessary.”

“I don’t think so, bro,” I say. “See her shoes?” Boy Band glances behind me at Cassie’s tall pumps. “Red doesn’t really go with blond hair.” I clap him on the shoulder. “So I’m pretty lucky,” I say, pointing to my dark hair. “Because those high heels are gonna look perfect wrapped around my head tonight.”
