A vampire never gets old. But neither do his enemies. When a figure from Ethan's dark past makes a splashy debut in Chicago, Merit and her Master don't know whether he's friend or foe. But they'll have to figure out soon, because trouble is brewing in the Windy City.

At an exclusive society soiree attended by the upper echelons of the human and supernatural worlds, Merit and Ethan barely stop the assassination of a guest. When the target turns out to be a shady businessman with a criminal edge, Merit suspects a human vendetta. But the assassins have fangs....

The connections to Chicago's Houses go deeper than Merit knows, and even one wrong move could be her last....

The Chicagoland Vampires series is one of my all time favourite Urban Fantasy series, and it just goes to show that the series is still going strong with the 11th book in the series. Dark Debt was another ripping installment packed full of action and suspense, all wrapped up in a world that I love to be swept away in.

Merit was a bit unsettled in this book and she found some things a little difficult, but she definitely made up for it in other ways. Merit was just as entertaining as ever and showed plenty of spunk and was calculating when needed. She was always on the go and I began to wonder if she would run out of steam, but she kept trudging on, getting to the bottom of this particular problem.

Ethan had a point to prove and as his past had come back to haunt him. Ethan is one of my favourite characters and I loved his take charge attitude, but he was also willing to let Merit handle a few things on her own. The relationship between him and Merit is still very strong and he showed his possessive and protective side a few times throughout the story.

Morgan and the Navaare house were a major element throughout this book and I liked seeing more of Morgan and the inner workings of his house. He was willing to sacrifice some pride and ask for help when he truly needed it, where in previous books he was a bit more stubborn.

Chloe Neill showed me again what a fantastic story teller she is. She wove together such an incredible story and I loved being in the exciting world she created. There were plenty of fight scenes - which I love - and lots of humour amongst the characters. We even had death by mallocakes which I found hilarious. All my favourite characters made appearances, and I was shocked to see a more compassionate side to one character in particular. If you are a fan of this series, you don't want to miss out on this one.

Hi Chloe!!
Welcome back and congratulations on the release of the 11th book in the Chicagoland Vampires series!

Thanks so much for having me!

I love a lot of the banter and humour throughout your books, and in Dark Debt I found a certain "party" scene at Cadogan House quite amusing where Merit, Luc, Lindsey, Mallory and Catcher were relaxed and being themselves… what was your favourite moment in this book?

Thanks! This book involves a very interesting visit from a ghost from Ethan's past, and I really enjoyed writing the scenes in which he interacts with Ethan and Merit. There was a lot of interesting emotion--and magic--in those scenes, and I'm really happy with how they turned out.

Yes, those scenes were fun too... he definitely had the hairs on my neck standing on end!!

When you are writing a book, what little things must you have to help you get into the groove?

I write in the evenings, so I must wear comfy pajamas. I write with a laptop, usually on the couch, usually sitting cross-legged. I like having candy nearby, but a glass of ice water is better. I used to write to music, but now I prefer a snarky comedy unless I'm nearing the end of a novel. Then I'll pick a good song and put it on repeat.

Oooh... Nice laid back approach!!

There are two more books scheduled to be released… Are you nervous or scared that the ending is near and are you prepared to bring us the ending to the Chicagoland Vampires series?

I wouldn't say nervous, but I certainly want to make sure that I do right by Merit, and satisfy all those fans who are looking for a good, solid conclusion to Merit's story. So I'd say I'm definitely feeling some pressure, but that's not much different than any book, because I always want them to be good, solid stories.

*Rubs hands together* I am very excited to see where things go now, I tell you!!

And because we all want to know a little more about you, tell us what are the top three things you have on your bucket list?

I'd like to visit Europe, learn to make a really good pie crust (I love to bake, but haven't tried that), and grab a really high spot in the NY Times list. :)

Good luck with these goals! I hope you get them all!!

Thank you for taking the time to pop in and visit. I look forward to your next release, The Veil (Devil's Isle #1) coming in August!

Thanks for having me!

  1. Yours is the second 5 star review I've read - which says a lot since it's the 11th book. I'm happy you enjoyed this one so much. I've not even started this series despite having book #1 sitting on my shelf. But I'm going to. :) Thanks for sharing the fun interview as well.
