First person in her family to go to college? CHECK.
Straight A’s? CHECK.
On track to graduate early? CHECK.
Social life? …..yeah, about that….

With just a few weeks until she graduates, Antonella DeLuca’s beginning to worry that maybe she hasn’t had the full college experience. (Okay... Scratch that. She knows she hasn't had the full college experience).

So Nell does what a smart, dedicated girl like herself does best. She makes a "to do" list of normal college activities.

Item #1? Hook up with a jock.

Rusk University wide receiver Mateo Torres practically wrote the playbook for normal college living. When he’s not on the field, he excels at partying, girls, and more partying. As long as he keeps things light and easy, it's impossible to get hurt... again. But something about the quiet, shy, sexy-as-hell Nell gets under his skin, and when he learns about her list, he makes it his mission to help her complete it.

Torres is the definition of confident (And sexy. And wild), and he opens up a side of Nell that she's never known. But as they begin to check off each crazy, exciting, normal item, Nell finds that her frivolous list leads to something more serious than she bargained for. And while Torres is used to taking risks on the field, he has to decide if he's willing to take the chance when it's more than just a game.

Together they will have to decide if what they have is just part of the experiment or a chance at something real.

I have loved both books in the Rusk University series so far, so it comes as no surprise that I loved All Played Out too! I have always liked Torres (Mateo) throughout the series, because he was the fun guy with the smart mouth, so it was going to be interesting to see who would steal his heart.

Nell is a smart and quiet girl who has been focused on school. That was until her roommate, Dallas, hooked up with Silas in the previous book. Dallas makes her see that she may be missing out on the whole college experience. This was when things took a turn and I was amused to see Nell make a list and completing the tasks on it. Dallas talks Nell into coming out and meeting her friends to play Ultimate Frisbee, which is where she meets Mateo, and the playful banter and flirting begins!

Nell and Mateo are total opposites – the nerd and the jock – so it was delightful to see them together! They quickly get under each other’s skin and Mateo pushes Nell into doing a lot of things on and off of her list, that are way out of her comfort zone. The chemistry between them was sizzling and Nell kept trying to keep the distance between them. Mateo was determined to win her over, because it was getting harder to stay away. I loved how they learned to trust one another, were comfortable together and were willing to protect each other.

Nell is actually pretty hilarious! She doesn’t have much of a filter; she tends to say exactly what she’s thinking so she seems to be quite blunt. She has been so focused on school work she finds it hard to interact with people. Mateo was quite forward with Nell, and there was no mistaking the fact that he wanted her. He never really chased a girl before, so all of his friends knew something was different.

Cora Carmack is such a fantastic story writer and I love each and every world she creates. The characters are easy to relate to, each have their flaws, but they also have kind hearts. The chemistry between Nell and Mateo built slowly and when they took that next step, it was explosive!! The characters from the previous books made appearances too, and I was able to see a bit more of Stella, who I look forward to reading about in the next book. If you haven’t read any of Cora’s books yet, you should do so now!!

He punctuates the command with a swat to my bum, and I gape at him.
“You did not just do that.”
“I did. And I liked it.” He rubs his hands together like some cheesy movie villain and says, “In fact, I think I might want to do it again.”

I haven't started this series yet- waiting for the summer. I so love nerd and jock stories though so here is hoping I like this one as much as you did.

  3. I really liked this one, too! I love Mateo so much, which actually surprised me. I liked him before in the other books, because he added humor to the story, but he's so loud that I wasn't sure how I was going to feel as a main character. But I fell for him HARD!

  4. I so wish I could get into this series. I love sports in books. Unfortunately, my first experience with the first book fizzled out in the first few chapters. :/ Glad you love them!

  5. I love opposites in a romance and, let's face it, the jock and the nerd has potential! Sounds like a well written story - it's absolutely delightful when things build up slowly and there is banter, friendship, trust. Excellent review, Naomi <3
