Review ~ Manic by J.A. Huss

Manic (Rook and Ronin, #2)Title: Manic
Author: J.A. Huss
Series: Rook and Ronin #2
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance

TRAGIC is over and Rook is ready for the future—Spencer Shrike and the STURGIS contract!

It’s three months of body art modeling! That means three months of Spencer Shrike’s paintbrush all over her body, three months in front of Antoine’s camera, and three months of twenty-four hour filming for Spencer’s Biker Channel reality show.

Wait a minute…what reality show? Maybe she should’ve read that STURGIS contract a little closer? ;)

Sure, Rook’s bank account is almost overflowing, but Ronin is angry, Clare is trying to escape rehab, Antoine is a worried mess, and Elise is just trying to hold everyone together. Her new family is about to fall apart before she even gets the chance to enjoy them.

Add in a mysterious man from her past, a road trip to the famous Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and a final show in front of the entire world where all her goods are on display, and you’ve got Manic—a new adult contemporary romance that will definitely make your summer sizzle!
I thought that the first book was sexy, with the erotic photoshoot, but this was much more sexier, but it is more intimate too as Rook is a model for Spence and his motorbike business. He is painting clothes onto her and having her in photos with the bikes he wants to feature. Rook becomes worried though as she has to do some intimate shoots with other men (albeit ones that she knows) and questions what it means for her and Ronin.

Ronin and Rooks relationship is also tested when he has to dash off to support Clare again. She is not holding up well and he is the only one she listens too. He is also struggling with the idea of Rook doing this contract, but will support her no matter what.

The introduction of a new character, Ford, was interesting too. He is not a very likeable character to begin with, but the more I got to know him the more respect I had for him. Ronin, Spence and Ford have history that goes back years and it was fun to see it all revealed and to see that one common interest can bring them back together.

I enjoyed how this story played out. It is not always fun when one of their pasts comes back to haunt them, and I was on the edge of my seat waiting for it to play out. This book runs through a lot of emotions and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was suspenseful, fun and oh-so erotic at times. I'm looking forward to the next instalment for sure!!
