The Thing About Love by Kim Karr ~ Review & Quote-tastic (@authorkimkarr)

It's been a long time since I read a Kim Karr read and this one jumped out at me when I was looking for my next read. It wasn't all fun and flirty, with a touch of seriousness entwined through the story, but it was still a great read.

The whole stethoscope-and-white coat thing isn't my cup of tea.
I prefer a man with an artistic vein in his body. 9 - 5 hours. And I can definitely do without the half-lidded, sleepy bedroom eyes. (Okay, so those are kind of sexy.)

Tall, dark, and handsome doesn't change the fact that he's arrogant, cocky, and rude.
Not that I care, but he's made it clear he wants nothing to do with a quirky girl like me, which is why he said no.

Turns out no isn't an option.

I have a quickie wedding to plan, and Dr. Jake Kissinger doesn't have a choice. He looks at our situation like he's stuck with me, but in reality, I'm stuck with him. Stuck with his pouty mouth. His long, lean body. And stuck with those loose, low riding scrub pants. (Okay, so the doctor thing is growing on me.)

When spending time together turns into more than it should, I know I'm in trouble.
He isn't supposed to make my heart pound.
I'm not supposed to make him look twice.
And we aren't supposed to spend the night together. (Okay, so he has more than one artistic vein in his body, and other places.)

Falling for him is definitely a mistake.

Here's the thing...
Jake is unavailable, and I know it.
Just not in the way you might think.

I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too.

This book started all light and flirty which drew me into the story and had me excited to see how these characters would be together. As the story continued though, it became a little intense and had a sad tone about it. Jules and Jake had lost people who were important to them and their loss shaped them into the people they became today.

Jules was an amusing character to read about. She seemed a bit unorganised but managed to get to her appointment on time. She was trying to run her uncle's wedding planner business and really enjoyed it, but was finding it hard to stay afloat. She had a heart of gold and would do anything for those she loved.

I loved the Jake we met in the beginning... all cheeky and carefree. However, after an amusing misunderstanding, he turned into a cold person who was determined not to hire Jules. He had a few moments that made me like him, like seeing how much he cared for his grandmother and he wanted to do anything to make her dreams come true. I could see that he was a good guy but the demons in his past kept him focused to do what he had always planned to do.

Jules and Jake had more in common than any of them realised, and it was hard to see them struggle with their past. The author did a fantastic job of bringing this issue to light, even though Jake tried hard to keep Jules away. Jake really pushed my buttons at times, but both characters were a little stubborn. If you haven't tried Kim Karr before, this is a good read to start off with.

This was amusing... these two had chemistry!!

He stepped even closer to me.
For some insane reason, my pulse started to race, and things that felt like butterflies in my belly seized me. These had to be new client butterflies, but I’d never gotten them like this before.
“I’m sorry if I’m staring,” he said, lifting his arm, “but I think you have a little—” As the words tumbled from his mouth, his finger slowly swiped across my bottom lip.
I closed my eyes.
“Frosting, right here,” he finished.
Oh my God!
