Leo by Mia Sheridan ~ Audiobook Review & Quote-tastic (@MSheridanAuthor)

I've been doing a bit of travelling in the car by myself, so I've listened to a lot of audiobooks lately, so it was no surprise that I was going to continue my Mia Sheridan experience! Leo was another good read, that pulls at your heart!

Evie and Leo met in foster care as children and formed a bond of friendship. As they grew, their bond turned to love, and they vowed to make a life together when they turned 18 and were no longer a part of the system.

When Leo unexpectedly gets adopted as a teen and he moves to another city, he promises Evie that he will contact her as soon as he gets there and come back for her in a few short years. She never hears from him again.

Now eight years later, in spite of the odds, Evie has made a life for herself. She has a job. She has friends. She's content. Then a man shows up out of the blue, claiming that her long lost love, Leo, sent him to check up on her. The attraction between them is undeniable. But, should she trust this sexy stranger? Or is he keeping a secret about what his connection to Leo is really all about and why Leo disappeared all those years ago?

Recently, I listened to my first Mia Sheridan read — Archer's Voice — and decided I had to read more of her work. So I decided to grab her first book Leo. Like Archer's Voice, it was beautifully written, with well fleshed out characters. The story alternated between the past – Evie and Leo, and present – Evie and Jake, as I learned why Evie was so broken and quiet, and why she seemed alone in the world with only a few close people in her life.

I enjoyed seeing the relationship develop between Evie and Leo. They began as two kids in foster care and grew close at such a young age. They both had been through hard times, but were able to open up to one another and would protect the other with everything they had. It was sweet to see them together, but sad when they parted, and I just wanted a HEA for them.

The relationship between Evie and Jake grew gradually, as Evie finally let someone new into her life. She was heartbroken after losing her best friend so many years ago. She slowly opened up to Jake, but it irked me that Jake was holding so much back from Evie. I kind of figured out what was happening, but it was still a bit of a surprise when it was all revealed. I kind of don't know how it was missed, but it was explained away throughout the story. If you look past it, and take on the explanations, it really is a beautiful read.

The narration was done well by Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden (epilogue). I enjoyed Maxine's voice, as she told 98% of the book, and I could feel the emotion and passion in her voice. This was another fantastic read by Mia Sheridan; it was gritty, intense and sweet, and I can overlook the part that I found a bit unbelievable, to enjoy the book as a whole. I'm continuing to enjoy my Mia Sheridan experience; bring on the next book!

I thought this was a sweet moment between Jake and Evie... he was laying it all out there for her!

"You told me you were mine, Evie. This is not some fun fuck. This is not casual to me. I thought I had conveyed that to you."
"So, what? You're like my boyfriend or something now?"
"Boyfriend, man, lover, whatever label you like, you can use it, but what it means is that we take care of each other in and out of the bedroom. And part of me taking care of you means me offering to give you the money it takes to make your dreams come true."
