It is release day for Fool's Quest in Australia... and I was so excited to read an early copy! It was a great sequel in the series, but again I was left wanting more. If you love this series... GO AND GET IT!
(No Swoon today, but I still shared a teaser from the book.)
Title: Fool's Quest
Author: Robin Hobb
Series: The Fitz and The Fool Trilogy #2
Genre: Fantasy
Happy endings never last… Years ago, they freed a dragon from the glaciers on Aslevjal. Then they parted ways, the Fool returning to far-off Clerres, while Fitz finally claimed a wife, a family, and a home of his own. Now, betrayed by his own people and broken by torment, the Fool has made his way back to the Six Duchies.
But as Fitz attempts to heal his old friend in Buckkeep Castle, his young daughter Bee is abducted from Withywoods by pale and mysterious raiders who leave ruin and confusion in their wake. Fitz must find a way to rescue his beloved Bee. At the same time it is the Fool’s fiercest wish to return to Clerres with the best assassin he has ever known, to gain vengeance and justice. Can Fitz bear to take up the tools of his old trade again, even to avenge his dearest friend and save his child?

I read Fool's Assassin in September last year, and I’ve been not-so-patiently waiting for Fool’s Quest. Now that I’ve read it, I have been left dying for the next book! I want more! Robin Hobb is probably one of my favourite Fantasy writers, and over the years and the eleven books that I’ve read, I continue to get blown away, every time! Fool’s Quest was everything and more that I expect from this world!
I love being back in Fitz and the Fool’s world, but things are extremely different now they are older, and after how things ended in the previous book, I hoped that they would all get through it! The Fool has endured so much and everything I learned about him broke my heart. I wanted to be there with them when they seek revenge.
Fitz spends a lot of the book at Buckkeep, at the castle with all the familiar characters; Chade, Kettricken, King Dutiful and Nettle, just to name a few. A lot of the time, he is struggling to fit in and spending time with the Fool and helping him heal. News about the incident that occurred at Withywoods doesn’t reach Fitz for a while, so he believed everything was well there. But when he learns what happened, he turns back into the Fitz from his younger days.
Seeing Fitz back in his assassin role was a definite highlight for me! I loved those moments throughout all the books, but now his passion and determination is fuelled because of what he has lost.
Like I mentioned in my review of Fool's Assassin there was another POV, and it came up occasionally through this book too. I love this character, and she was going through a difficult time; it was scary and intense!
There’s so much that happened in this book, that I didn’t think would ever happen! I loved seeing the change for Fitz and Buckkeep. There were numerous times that tears welled in my eyes, some of happiness, others due to sadness. I also loved how the whole family banded together in times of need.
Robin Hobb is an amazing Fantasy writer, and I love how each time I pick up one of her books, I am swept away in her world. The details that are in each book pull you in so that you feel like you are there along with the characters. I am emotionally attached to all of them; I smile when they are happy, my heart aches when things are hard and I cry in times of sadness. This book was an amazing journey and I am left on edge, wondering if they will all make it back alive!
If anyone has been on the journey from the start with Fitz and the Fool, you can understand why this particular moment between Fitz and Chade could bring tears to your eyes.
He hooked his bony hand around the back of my head and for a moment held me close. ‘Oh, my boy. The best mistake Chivalry ever made was you. Go on, now.’

Robin Hobb is one of the world's finest writers of epic fiction. She was born in California in 1952 but raised in Alaska, where she learned how to raise a wolf cub, to skin a moose and to survive in the wilderness. When she married a fisherman who fished herring and the Kodiak salmon-run for half the year, these skills would stand her in good stead.
She raised her family, ran a smallholding, delivered post to her remote community, all at the same time as writing stories and novels. She succeeded on all fronts, raising four children and becoming an internationally best-selling writer. She lives in Tacoma, Washington State.
