This is another book that has been on my kindle for so long, and I have finally decided to take the plunge and read it. His to Possess was a steamy read with interesting characters.
Title: His to Possess
Author: Opal Carew
Series: His to Possess #1-6
Genre: Erotic Contemporary Romance
Jessica’s life was in ruins…until she met him.
Standing in the rain feeling lost in a new city, with no job and no prospects, she’s about to give up. Until Dane Rainier pulls up in his limo and offers her a ride—and sweeps her into the life of her dreams. Now she has a high-powered job and is having the best sex of her life, exploring her submissive side under the masterful hand of a gorgeous billionaire.
But there’s a part of her that’s still holding back. Because the truth is, she’s never gotten over her ex-boyfriend Storm. A heavily muscled, motorcycle-riding rock musician, Storm couldn’t be any more different from Dane… and she just can’t get him out of her head.
Now Storm is about to reappear and turn her whole world upside down. Both Dane and Storm make her body burn to be possessed, but will her indecisive heart cost her the love of both men?

His to Possess was originally a serial and has now been combined into this one book. I haven’t read anything written by Opal Carew before, so I was excited to see what she would deliver with this book.
The story begins with Jessica pursuing a guy who resembles her ex, Dane, and immediately they have a connection. This was quite an amusing time for Jessica as she made a mistake and tries to cover it up. And then Dane offers her a lift to the convention… which was sweet! When they meet again the tension continues to build, and one thing leads to another… and you get the drift *wink*. Jessica gets a job in the end, and things get a little difficult for her, but the passion between Jessica and Dane never fizzles.
There was a twist in the story which I had figured out long before it happened and I was interested to see how things would work out for all of the characters. Dane is a dominant male, and I didn’t think he would handle it well. Jessica was able to explore a sexual side to her with Dane that she hadn’t attempted before, so I couldn’t see her going back to the ex. But Storm had her head all over the place and I could see why she was confused. When the three of them got together though, that was probably where I drew the line. Up until then I was enjoying the book, the decisions Jessica had to face about who she wanted and what would make her happy.
Opal has a writing style that draws you into her world and had me wanting to know more. For the most part I enjoyed the book; I liked the characters and who Jessica chose. But how the ending wrapped up, not so much. There are some lines that should not be crossed… not once but twice! Really? I don’t think that it would deter me from picking up more work written by Opal in the future though!

“And I want you,” he proclaimed. “I suggest we take the day off and spend it in my bedroom.”
“No, that’s not a good idea.” She summoned the strength of will to draw away from him a little, but he didn’t release her from his arms.
“I think it’s a great idea.” He smiled and kissed her, a light brush of lips this time. “But if you’d rather, I’ll take you out to dinner tonight. Candlelight and wine in an elegant restaurant. A stunning view of the city. Then back to my place.”

Cute swoon. Seems like either way, she'll end up in his bedroom. Shame the ending to this story was a disappointment.
ReplyDeleteShe has a serialized novel too, is this it? I love what you said about her writing, I'm a sucker for beautifully written novels.
ReplyDeleteThere's always a predictability to any romance novels, isn't it? Still. At least you enjoyed it. :)
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of love triangles- I try to be, I want to be. I just get mad at the girl for being an idiot and the guys for not realizing that there are other girls out there.
ReplyDeleteMy Swoon
This book doesn't really smell of that dreaded instalove but I definitely since that....instalust and insta"getting it on?" That turns me off from a book when that happens. I want to see character development. I want to see fun(but not that type of fun until much later if you know what I mean) :)
ReplyDeletePredictable elements can be frustrating, but overall this sounds like a complex romance featuring interesting characters. Nice quote :)
ReplyDeleteDetermined, isn't he...hehe
ReplyDeleteSeems like an interesting story. I might give this one a try. Good review. In spite of figuring out some things earlier on, glad you still liked it for the most part.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you enjoyed this story overall. I get so disappointed when I figure out the pot twist too early! Too bad you didn't like the ending. I agree, some lines should not be crossed!

All in one book? Then I'm good to go! And now I need to know what line was crossed.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you liked the characters but sad to hear the ending didn't live up
ReplyDeleteI haven't read anything by Carew either, Naomi. (well, I guess you remedied that ;) But I've always heard good things. I like the sound of His to Possess but I can understand your issues with it. If you're upset about a line being crossed, I know I will be as well. :D Anyway, I'm glad you gave her a try and liked her overall. I'm betting I have her on one of my ereaders... ;)
ReplyDeleteHaha! Yup, she was always going! The ending wasn't quite right, but I still enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteThis used to be a serial, it could be it. I did like it, and really enjoyed her writing!
ReplyDeleteYes, that is true Joy! And I did like it!
ReplyDeletehehe! That is understandable. I don't mind it so much, as long as it works out ok. And we get a book for the person who misses out!
ReplyDeleteThere was definitely attraction from the beginning, but nothing moved on right away. They took time and got to know one another, but boy things became hawt!
ReplyDeleteIt was certainly complex Ramona! And I did like the characters!
ReplyDeleteHe certainly was! Had no plans on letting her go!
ReplyDeleteI did like most of it, I guess I can't like them all!
ReplyDeleteYes, and twice! Felt a little icky too me!
ReplyDeleteBwahahaha! I'm not sure if you would like it, was a bit taboo!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm... you can't have it all your way, I guess!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was a bit weird... I cannot imagine being in that situation and allowing it, despite my feelings... oh well!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love taboo. I just like when it's well written. ;)
