I have finally made time to read Getting Lucky Number Seven, and it was a fun new adult read. It is not heavy on angst and overall I finished the book feeling happy about this couple.

What's your lucky number?
Lyla Wilder is done being the shy, chemistry nerd extraordinaire. While every other college student is out having fun, Lyla is studying. With her cat. Well, she's played it "safe" quite enough, thank you. So she creates a "College Bucket List"―with item #7 being a night of uninhibited, mind-blowing sex...
But she needs some help from her man-whore best friend.
Hockey player Beck Davenport thought Lyla's transformation would be subtle. Man, was he wrong. With every item she ticks off, Beck finds himself growing seriously hot for his sweet, brainiac best friend. And if he's not careful, he'll end up risking their friendship in order to convince Lyla that he might just be her lucky #7...

I hosted Getting Lucky Number Seven on my blog a while back, and had to pick it up when it was on sale. It was a delightful read about Lyla, a girl who wants to spice up her college life and recruits the services of her best friend Beck, the college ice hockey star.
Lyla has never been the girl who cared about her appearances, but when she overhears a jerk talking about her she decides it’s time to change things up a bit. She visits her friend Beck who sees past the clothes to the smart girl beneath, and he is willing to help her with her plans to experience the ‘real’ college life. After Lyla’s make over – where she actually takes Beck to the shops with her – he starts to see her differently and their relationship strengthens.
Both of these characters were easy to like. They were both nerdy, in a way, and had the same passion for chemistry. Lyla does a lot of things that she would not normally do and Beck is there for most of those steps. Beck is under a lot of pressure and is unsure of the path he wants to take. He loves playing Ice Hockey, but his family obligations require him to do something else. But when these two are together, I could see the easy relationship they had and that the chemistry between them was getting harder to ignore.
The small bucket list of items Lyla created was not too over the top, and together Beck and Lyla accomplished a few of them, but it was the seventh item that bought these two closer together. I liked seeing Lyla get through her list and grow more confident as a person. Beck was more relaxed around Lyla too, slowly letting down walls and letting Lyla know his secrets. They really are a sweet couple.
This is the first book that I have read of Cindi Madsen’s and I must say that I really did enjoy it. The writing flowed effortlessly and the world was easy to be swept away in. I enjoyed the alternating pov’s so I could see what both characters were thinking and the hurdles that each of them had to face. If you are looking for an entertaining, light kind of read in the new adult genre, you may want to try this one, you won’t be disappointed.
“You look so different, it was hard to believe it was even you at first,” he said. “I feel like saying that you look better is an insult to how you usually look, but I’ll admit the red hair is sexy as hell, and your legs and your…” His gaze dipped to my cleavage, and I fought the urge to cover it up. Maybe I should’ve brought, like, a tiny scarf. Just a little something. “If you’re asking if guys will notice you at this party, the answer is yes. Trust me on that.”

USA Today Bestselling author Cindi Madsen sits at her computer every chance she gets, plotting, revising, and falling in love with her characters. Sometimes it makes her a crazy person. Without it, she'd be even crazier. She has way too many shoes but can always find a reason to buy a new pretty pair, especially if they're sparkly, colorful, or super tall. She loves music, dancing, and wishes summer lasted all year long. She lives in Colorado (where summer is most definitely NOT all year long) with her husband and three children.
