Thoughtful by S.C. Stephens ~ Review & Swoon Thursday

I just had to get Thoughtful to read Kellan's perspective on meeting Kiera and seeing the way she tore his heart apart. I enjoyed this one more and today's swoon shows the heartache Kellan was going through... sigh!

A new novel in the Thoughtless series from #1 New York Times bestselling author S. C. Stephens!

Every story has two sides, and in this new book, the epic love story between Kiera and Kellan is shown through his eyes.

All Kellan Kyle needs is his guitar, and some clean sheets of paper. Growing up in a house that was far from a home, he learned a hard lesson: You're worthless. Now his life is comfortably filled with passionate music, loyal band mates, and fast women... until he meets her.

Kiera makes him ache for more. Makes him feel for the first time that he's worth more. But there's one problem— she's his best friend's girl.

Just when Kellan thought his emotional defenses were rock solid, Kiera's indecisive heart wreaks havoc on his soul, changing him forever. Losing Kiera is not an option.

I read Thoughtless not long ago, and before continuing with the series, I was told to read Thoughtful because it was told from Kellan’s point of view. I am glad that I did because a lot of the details were still fresh in my mind and I was able to follow the same situations with ease. This book made me love Kellan that much more as I saw the depth of his pain and struggles with Keira.

Kellan had a difficult childhood and used women to feel wanted. His parents treated him badly and he was looking to other people to fill that void. When Keira and Denny come to live with him in Seattle he realised that he wanted that kind of easy relationship too, but knew he couldn’t step over the line with his best friend’s girl.

Kellan and Keira’s relationship started as friends, but changed after Denny went away for work. Keira was becoming depressed and Kellan pulled her out of it, but their connection became stronger and harder to ignore. Every touch, every caress and every kiss made it harder for Kellan to give her up and when things escalate to the next level he realises how deep his feelings are for her. But Keira… argh! She continued to break his heart and I think it was worse from his point of view! I knew it was going to happen, but seeing what he did to move past it was heartbreaking. She was so frustrating for both Kellan and me and I wanted to yell at her to wake up to herself!!

I enjoyed Thoughtful more than the first book because I was able to feel the emotion and struggles that Kellan had to deal with. He tried so hard to give Keira up, but she continued to hold onto him. His friendship with Denny was important to Kellan as they went through some tough times in the year they were together, but he couldn’t stop his feelings toward Keira from growing. The time and emotion he put into his music was beautiful too, I could see how much his relationship with Keira was torturing him. If you are a fan of this series, you will want to read this book!!

I emotionally released everything built up inside of me, from the pain of not having Kiera’s love to the pain of never having my parents’. I cried for hurting Kiera. I cried for betraying Denny. I cried for my nonexistent childhood. I even cried for the mountain of meaningless encounters I’d had over my lifetime, because meaningless encounters were probably all I would ever have now.
Kiera didn’t run away from my breakdown. She held me, cradled me, rubbed my back, even pulled a blanket over my shivering body and used her heat to warm me. I’d never felt so much love and comfort from another human being. Ever.

  2. I love this cover too... Makes me want to jump right on up there and take advantage of him *wink*
I think it's because Kiera shits me, and I love Kellan... his POV was always going to be better! lol

  3. I loved Thoughtless more than Thoughtful too! I was even more of an emotional wreck reading from his POV. It was really difficult to like Kiera, because of how she treated Kellan, and Denny for that matter. Great Review Naomi :)

She is holding him like she loves him- but he doesn't have her love? Is he just guessing on that? Nice swoon!

  7. I re-read Thoughtless in December in preparation for this novel. (I had originally read this in 2012 and I've read the other novels as well) I still haven't read Thoughtful but I'm dying to. Especially after reading your review, Naomi. Keira made me want to strangle her in Thoughtless - but I tried to put myself in her shoes...well, at least remember her age. ;) I could understand why she was hard pressed to make a decision buuut, this is Kellan we're talking about. I'm actually really glad Stephens did this novel as I was always wanting to know what was going on in Kellan's head. I'm glad it made you happy. :)
