Josh North is UFC’s Light Heavyweight Champion—but he’s about to meet his match.
Sophie Garner is a single mom who’s been raising her daughter on her own, fighting for both of their lives ever since going into hiding to escape her abusive husband.
When Sophie gets offered the job of a lifetime as the exclusive massage therapist for Josh “The Jackhammer” North’s team, it’s difficult to say no to the outrageous salary—and the bet—that Josh proposes. But for Sophie it’s a risk that could cost a lot more than just her heart – if she’s found, it could cost her her life.
Should she dare?
Josh wants to break through Sophie’s fortified walls, but is unwilling to put the jackhammer to his own and reveal his secrets and the side of him few have ever known or seen. To do that, he’ll have to confront the darkness of his past.
Will he dare?

Dare is the first book in the Brothers of Ink and Steel series which is a spinoff from the original series. Josh North stars in this first book and he’s one of the brothers from the True North series. He has had a difficult life and it was hard for him to move past it. Seeing him now as a well trained, humble and put together person showed that he was able to move on.
Sophie has her own Demons and is still on the run from them with her daughter. She has found a temporary kind of peace, but continues to worry about the danger that may find her one day. She has built a good, stable life for herself and her daughter, until Josh became one of her patients. She is offered the job of a lifetime and like every good mother, looks at what it can do for her and Charlie.
I loved seeing Josh and Sophie together. They had an attraction from the beginning, but because of their working relationship they tried not to cross any lines. I loved seeing Josh’s soft side around Charlie too, getting her to like him made my heart so happy for him. It made it harder for Sophie to keep him away.
Allie Juliette Mousseau based some of this story off some true and actual events and I think that it was done so beautifully. There was always that element of danger and the way that your past always affects you. I loved how Sophie was able to find courage within herself to do what was best for her and her daughter. It was a great story, and if you haven’t read any of Allie’s books before, you should start with this one!!

True North Series
Sometimes, I like reading stories about single parents doing their thing on their own. And meeting the loves of their lives is just the bonus. I think I can learn to love this, too!
ReplyDeleteIt was a great read. It is nice to get a perspective of a single mother, buecause a lot of us are already parents and can connect to her. I hope you get a chance to read it sometime.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan on spin-off books. Love to get a little more from ones I love.
ReplyDeleteThe synopsis alone sounded hot already! I'm curious to see how they will work out their issues and end up together. That's always part of the fun in romance books. :) Nice review, Naomi! :)
ReplyDeleteAnother winner - where do you find these books?! The story sounds really good, with two likeable characters who are both strong and plagued with problems. Just the way I like them :) Beautiful review, as always!
ReplyDeleteThese two sound great together. That's cool that the author based some of it on actual events. I want to know which ones.
ReplyDeleteBy actual events you mean her life experiences? That's always a good thing
ReplyDeleteI have a sample. Hope to find time to read it soon. The blurb really caught my attention. She seems like a heroine I would like.
ReplyDeleteSounds good, will have to check this one out! Great review.
ReplyDeleteOoo okay. That's sounding pretty hot. *runs to Amazon*
ReplyDeleteIt was a good read, I have really enjoyed this series. I hope you are able to get to it soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised you don't have that shelf already!
I agree... I love a little more too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Goldie! It was an intense ride, I tell you!
ReplyDeleteThis was for review and I really have enjoyed the series.
ReplyDeleteHehe! You will have to read and find out!!
ReplyDeleteIt was something that happened, not to her.
ReplyDeleteShe was a good one, she is focused on her daughter and what will get them ahead.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon. It was a good read.
ReplyDeleteHaha! Glad you think so!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you enjoyed seeing Josh after he's grown and moved on, Naomi. And I really like the sound of Sophie. She seems strong and like she's a good mama. :) I may or may not have already one-clicked this one - who knows. But I know I *do* have Finding Home and I'm eager to read the True North series. Hmm, maybe I should make a shelf on my kindle called "Naomi Recs". What do you think? I'd love to see how many books I own thanks to you. ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday, girl! (or is it Tuesday there - I can't figure out the time difference) Anyway, I hope your week is off to a great start!
