Review ~ Ransom by Rachel Schurig

Title: Ransom
Author: Rachel Schurig
Series: Ransom #1
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Published: April 28th 2014

Daisy Harris has no reason to suspect that her day will be any different than usual. She’ll go to class, alone. She won’t speak or make eye contact. She’ll spend her entire day doing her best to go completely unnoticed. That’s what life is like for Daisy now—an endless cycle of loneliness and fear. A life lived hiding behind the walls she so faithfully maintains.

Then she sees it. A magazine, left behind in class. A simple picture—just his face. And it changes everything.

It’s been a year since she’s seen Daltrey Ransome. A year since he and his brothers left town to pursue their dreams of rock and roll superstardom. A year since he left Daisy behind—left her to watch as everything she knew crumbled around her. She’s been running from Daltrey ever since, desperate to keep her secret.

But she can’t run anymore. And now that Daltrey has found her—the girl he’s loved his entire life, the girl he’d give up everything for—he’s determined never to let her go again.

I was just browsing Amazon the other day and Randsom popped up so I figured why not, it’s free!! I am glad I did, because it was a really good read about two best friends that drifted apart, only to realise the depth of their feelings when they meet again.

Daisy is a really nice girl, but she has a lot of demons that have affected her since Daltrey left. She has got through them as best as she can and is trying to find her own kind of normalcy again. Making friends at college was a start and she is soon on the road with the girls where she will catch up with her friend Daltrey and his brothers again.

Daltrey has missed having Daisy around and regrets not telling her his true feelings before he left. After she cut him out of his life, he hasn’t enjoyed his success as much as he would like to. When she contacts him about catching up on the road, his spirits lift as he has something to look forward to again.

I liked both of these characters; they have really worked hard to create their own lives, even if it has been rocky. I liked how sweet Daltrey was and treated Daisy so well. Daisy’s story is heartbreaking and once Daltrey knew he showed her how important she was to him, even if he took it too far.

I thought this was a great introduction to the Randsom series. I loved getting glimpses of the brothers and I’m looking forward to their individual books. Daisy’s friends were amazing and very supportive too. I enjoyed the direction the story took, as I slowly learned Daisy’s secrets and the depth of pain and trauma that she has endured.
