The emotional and unforgettable new romance from the New York Times bestselling author of the On Dublin Street series.

Alexa Holland’s father was her hero—until her shocking discovery that she and her mother weren't his only family. Ever since, Alexa has worked to turn her life in a different direction and forge her own identity outside of his terrible secrets. But when she meets a man who’s as damaged by her father’s mistakes as she is, Alexa must help him.

Caine Carraway wants nothing to do with Alexa’s efforts at redemption, but it’s not so easy to push her away. Determined to make her hate him, he brings her to the edge of her patience and waits for her to walk away. But his actions only draw them together and, despite the odds, they begin an intense and explosive affair.

Only Caine knows he can never be the white knight that Alexa has always longed for. And when they're on the precipice of danger, he finds he’ll do anything to protect either one of them from being hurt again…

I always like reading a book where the main character has a bit of spunk, and in Hero there is Alexa… the fiery smart-ass that had me laughing time and time again!! It also had a brooding male lead, Caine, and I was looking forward to seeing her break him down!

Alexa was entertaining to read about, she is down to earth and I loved how she spoke her mind and went after what she wanted. So when her life was turned upside down, she was ready to confront the person who did it, Caine.

I loved seeing Alexa get under Caine’s skin. She unsettled him from the start and was determined to get Caine to help her. When he did, she didn’t expect what he offered, and he continued to make things difficult for her. I loved how strong she was and never backed down from him, and was able to push back when needed.

You could see Caine’s frustration with Alexa from the very beginning and you could see that he wasn’t sure what to do with her. He was hurt and angry at first, but I could see why he would take it out on her at times. The tension was thick between them and I could see how confusing it was for both of them, especially Alexa, because Caine was unable to let her in.

Alexa and Caine’s relationship was never going to be easy. What happened between their families so long ago is not easy to forget. Although Alexa is upfront with Caine, he tended to keep his secrets close and it made their relationship difficult.

I really enjoyed this story and how it all came together. This was the first book of Samantha Young’s that I have read. She built this fun world with these amazing characters that I liked to read about. Alexa and Caine’s story certainly was entertaining… I will be picking up more books of hers in the future, that’s for sure!!

  4. Well, with a title like "Hero" you've got to know that you've bagged a winner. I love the storyline, the fact that both of them were hurt and that, for a while, instead of helping each other, they do the opposite - it sounds mean, I know, but I love that kind of tension, especially when it is well written. I haven't read her, but this is a really glowing review, Naomi, so I will :) I ended up adding so many of your recommendations to my list, I think I'm headed for financial ruin :P
