Marcus Hardy had hoped to enjoy a year away at college while he put the summer he’d rather forget behind him. But instead, he’s jerked right back to the coastal town of Sea Breeze, Alabama due to a family crisis. His dear ol' dad found himself a girlfriend only a few years older than Marcus. So now his sister needs help dealing with their mother who is mentally falling apart. The only bright spot to returning is the fascinating red head who sleeps over several times a week. The problem is she's sleeping in bed with his new roommate, Cage York.
Willow “Low” Foster needs a place to live. Running to Cage’s apartment every time her sister kicks her out isn’t exactly a long term solution. Juggling her courses at the local community college and a part time job doesn’t produce excess income. But Cage has a new roommate and suddenly sleeping over at her best friend’s apartment isn’t such a bad thing. Not when she gets to see those sexy green eyes of Marcus Hardy’s twinkle when he smiles at her like he wants her there.
Even though Cage seems a little territorial where Low is concerned, Marcus finds time to spend with Low without upsetting his roommate. Cage may use his small college baseball star persona to sleep with every hot female in his path but he’s still under the disillusion that when he’s through sowing his wild oats, he’s going to marry Low. Marcus intends to change that assumption for both Cage and Low. Until his carefully laid plans come crashing down with a revelation he never expected. He’ll have to choose between Low or his family. Because once the truth comes out.... there’s no other choice.

I met Marcus in Breathe, the first book in the Sea Breeze series, and right from the beginning he stole a little piece of my heart. I really wanted to meet the girl that would capture his love, since Sadie didn’t return his feelings. I must say that Willow (Low) was a perfect choice for him.
Cage and Marcus are roommates, since Marcus had to move home to support his sister and mother. Low forced her way into Marcus’ life when she came to her friend Cage looking for refuge for the night. Both Marcus and Low are intrigued by one another and they slowly build a friendship that turns into genuine feelings, which I thought was sweet. They both have family issues and they are reluctant to share with one another, and I remember wishing that they would lay their cards out on the table. There was a twist in the book, which I figured out early on, so I had an inkling of what was going to happen between them, which wasn’t going to be good.
I liked both of the characters, even though they hold back details from one another, they did develop genuine feelings for one another which they haven’t felt before. Low finds it extremely hard to let people in, and given her history, no wonder. I really disliked her sister, who is a selfish cow, but her niece was so cute. Marcus is really a nice guy and has a heart of gold, but when he gets a thought in his head he sticks with it without seeing the bigger picture. He does a couple of silly things and I just wanted to shake him… Not everything is black and white!
Abbi Glines is a great story teller and I love reading about her Sea Breeze people. The world is so realistic, with characters you feel passionate about. The next book is Cage’s and I look forward to getting his full story and meeting the girl that will stop him his womanising ways.

ReplyDeleteSo, how far up in priority should Glines be, Naomi?? I really want to read her. Marcus and Low sound like a great NA couple - making mistakes, figuring things out. I'm glad you enjoyed Because of Low, girl. I'm eager to get started on this series. But don't worry - M Leighton comes first. (and probably a few others you've put on my kindle ;)
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your review, I'm really hopping that Low's sister doesn't get her own novel. LOL Or, maybe that'd be a good thing cuz it'd allow us to understand her character better. Anyway, I digress, Abbi Glines' writing is always a winner with me.
