Review ~ Out of Mind by Jen McLaughlin

Title: Out of Mind

Series: Out of Line #3
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance

Reaching for sunlight...

Finn survived the ambush and came home to me, but in his head, the battle is still raging. He’s falling apart and I’m trying my best to pick up the pieces of him, to find the us we used to be. I love him as much as I ever did, but love isn’t enough to fix this. I thought telling my father about our relationship would be the hardest thing we’d ever have to face. I was wrong.

Lost in shadows...

All I wanted was to be worthy of Carrie. One mission, just one, and I’d be able to give her the future she deserved. Then everything went wrong, leaving me tainted and broken. Carrie wants me to be who I was, but all that’s left is what they made of me. I’m no good for her. No good for anyone like this. I have to figure out how to move forward. Alone.

Sometimes love isn’t enough…

What an emotionally charged book! Going into it I knew Out of Mind was going to be hard, but it continued to get harder before it got better. I will admit that I shed a few tears – especially during Chapter 8 – because it was just gut wrenching!

Things didn't go as planned at the end of Out of Time, so it was always going to be a challenge for Carrie and Finn. Finn fell really hard in this book and it was heart breaking to see the struggles he had to endure. Carrie wanted to be the person to help him out of this slump, but it was hard to do that for him without him breaking further. It was a difficult time for not only them, but their family and friends as well. Although they weren't able to get through it like they would've hoped, they did work hard to be better people.

This final book had everything I love in a good contemporary/romance read: passion, heart break, and characters who I love. It has the right mix of suspense and plot twists that kept me guessing. There are some great side characters that I like (Hernandez, Marie and Riley) and I am dying to see more of them. They have big influences on both Carrie and Finn’s lives and deserve their own books.

I love how Jen has me so captivated by her stories. She builds realistic worlds, with characters that I love and they do things that happen in real life. Her writing style has me hooked from beginning to end, and the epilogue in this one was perfect. I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!
