Red mirrored scales race up my arms as the haze of pain blurs my vision. My bones crack, breaking to realign. I scream. It is then that the realization of my unavoidable fate sinks in; I am of a dying race. I am dragon.
Aurora Megalos, orphaned and teetering on the edge of adulthood, thought finding her past would curb the sting of being an outcast. Having no memories of the time before she awoke on her foster mother’s doorstep, she yearns for the emptiness inside her to be filled. With her fellow orphaned best friend, Fenn, by her side, she has nothing to lose and everything to gain. But something powerful stirred within her that she couldn’t explain. Something wanted out.
In the dark of night, a crazed Seer, dubbed Mr.Creepy, erases everything she’s ever known with an impending prophecy. She now faces two paths. Return to her true home to protect a dying race against a growing evil, or stay hidden in the safety of our realm with a shot at a true love. With a vengeful Arch Enemy stopping at nothing to see her dead, she’s running out of time; a decision must be made. What would you choose?

I must admit, Born in Flames actually surprised me! I could see that there was something special about the characters and soon they were on a mission to unlock the secrets of their pasts so they can return home. It is the first in a trilogy and I was left wanting more by the end of the book. There is action, suspense and a prophecy to decipher… what more could I want??
Rory and Fenn have no memories of their lives before they were ten. Rory has always known that she is different and has some kind of supernatural power and in Born in Flames, a lot of her questions are answered. Rory and Fenn changed so much from the beginning of the book and you could see – although they couldn’t remember – how their personalities were linked to the prophecy. I am REALLY intrigued by the Dragon twists… I cannot wait to get more details about them and how they affect the whole prophecy.
As a whole I really enjoyed Born in Flames. There were a few minor things that annoyed me like when Rory made a decision, she then questioned herself and the people around her… I was left scratching my head at times, because she just needed to stick to her guns. But otherwise, the world building and how the two realms overlap was just fantastic! I liked the characters both good and bad; as they gave great depth to the story. When I got to the end of the book I was left excited. I have predictions and I’m keen to see where things go now.

ReplyDeleteWow, this sounds like a fantastic read, and I'm glad you really enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteI've added it on my Goodreads shelf! :)
Even though annoying in books, I can totally get Rory questioning her decisions. I do that and can't imagine doing it with the pressure characters in books have to
ReplyDeleteI actually own this one - I think I picked it up as an Amazon freebie and then forgot about it :( It sounds so good though and since I actually own it, I think I'm going to try and fit in sooner than later! I'm reading the Maze Runner series now and they have lost their memories, so I know how well that works as a story element! Great review Naomi.
ReplyDeleteI've seen this book around, but I don't think I've seen any reviews. Glad to hear it's good!

Great review hun! I'm pretty much like Rory at times, most of the time. I question a lot of things around me & my decisions & I hate it but I can't help. I wish I could. Like when I love a book I can't describe how much I love it or why. It's so frustrating, and I'm a blogger, I'm supposed to know what to write. Oh God, let's not even go there.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you liked this book, it certainly stands out. Have a good weekend <3
I'm kind of digging the dragon thing lately. Seems I've seen a few books with them around. This sounds really interesting.
