New York Times bestselling author J.A. Redmerski brings us a stunning and heart-wrenching new novel about a couple who find each other in their darkest moment.
Since they were kids, Elias Kline and Brayelle Bates have been inseparable. When Bray moves to South Carolina, separating the two for the first time, they both at last realize that their innocent childhood friendship has developed into something much more. So when Bray finally returns to Georgia—and to Elias—things between them couldn’t be more perfect…until one fateful night changes everything.
Desperate not to go to prison for a terrible accident, Elias and Bray decide to run. As they try to make the most of their freedom, the two find themselves relying on a rebellious group of people who tempt the duo into a wild and daring new life. But they can’t run from their troubles forever.
As the consequences of their past catch up to them, the couple must finally face reality. Even if they can make it through the unimaginable, Elias knows the truth about Bray’s painful history, and in the end he may not be able to save Bray from herself…
New Adult Contemporary Romance - Standalone Novel
If you are looking for a cuddly book that will make you all warm and fuzzy, this book is certainly not it! This is quite a deep and intense book about two people who grew up together, who should've been a couple and in the end took the long path to finally find their happiness.
Elias and Bray… I didn't click until we got to that particular scene, but we briefly met them in Andrew and Cam's story. This couple have been through a lot and within only a few weeks drama has completely changed their lives. Soon they are on the road and facing a whole new set of troubles.
Elias I liked immediately. He is really a sweet guy. He has lived a pretty normal life and has made close friends along the way, one being Bray, who he first met when they were nine. They went through a lot of firsts together, but never really became a couple until later in their lives. Things don't always go to plan and we soon find Elias and Bray together following their hearts… Until disaster strikes, and they uproot their lives yet again, but this time they do it together. We are soon on a journey around the country, living day to day, with new friends. Along the way Elias finds out what secrets Bray has kept from him, which may make or break them. Bray… I really found her hard to like, but that was before all her secrets were revealed. She has struggled most of her life and really hasn't had the right support. When all the details were in the open it was easier to understand her.
J.A. Redmerski knows how to write a truly emotional story that can shatter your heart. Song of the Fireflies hits some hard issues and shows how people who may not be 100% stable, are able to deal with those circumstances. It wasn't an overly happy read, but soon you are emotionally connected to the characters and swept away with the story. I laughed, I got attached and I cried. It was a moving read and I really did enjoy it.
I received a copy of this book from the Publisher, via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Oh just from the blurb I can tell this is one of those books you have to be in the right mood to read - and your review confirmed for me that this is so not a happy read. I love books like this, but I have to be emotionally ready. Great review, I'm adding it to my tbr!
ReplyDeleteIt was intense.... What these two go through... phew!!
ReplyDeleteMe too... I wasn't expecting it to be so deep. I need to read another book that I KNOW will be deep.... I just have to get into the right frame of mind!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great review, Naomi. And for taking the time to read it! :-) Would you mind posting your review on Amazon as well?
ReplyDeleteIt was my pleasure!! I have enjoyed this series.... and I will!!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately.... As I am Australian, it is not letting me post my review to Amazon. It only comes up as a Pre-order for the paperback and I can't put a review up yet.
ReplyDeleteGlad you managed to enjoy, I couldn't click with Elias or Bray so I didn't finish, but sounds like if I would have hung in there a bit
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, so I understand your reluctance to not finishing it. They were a lot different from Andrew and Cam. Bray had some serious issues to work through too.
ReplyDeleteI have two other Redmerski books on my shelf and I think I'll read those before I jump into this one. I have trouble with books where I don't like the main character, but I'm also a sucker for intense books that make me cry. Hmmmm....
