There are those who don’t get luck handed to them on a shiny platter, who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, who don’t get saved.

Luck was not on Callie’s side the day of her twelfth birthday when everything was stolen from her. After it’s all over, she locks up her feelings and vows never to tell anyone what happened. Six years later her painful past consumes her life and most days it’s a struggle just to breathe.

For as long as Kayden can remember, suffering in silence was the only way to survive life. As long as he did what he was told, everything was okay. One night, after making a terrible mistake, it seems like his life might be over. Luck was on his side, though, when Callie coincidentally is in the right place at the right time and saves him.

Now he can’t stop thinking about the girl he saw at school, but never really knew. When he ends up at the same college as Callie, he does everything he can to try to get to know her. But Callie is reserved and closed off. The more he tries to be part of her life, the more he realizes Callie might need to be saved.

OMG! I loved this story!! It is dark in places and sweet in others, but the way the author has woven it together was just beautiful. I have read a few of Jessica Sorenson’s books and every time I do, I am left amazed at the detail and emotion she puts into it! If you have not read any of her work, grab this series! It is so good.

Callie has lived a quiet, secluded life for years, with no friends and all through high school she has been hiding in the shadows. She is sweet, but withdrawn from society. She doesn't like to be around people or to be touched. Something happened to her that made her that way and now she wants to go to college and restart her life. She bonds with a guy named Seth who also has his insecurities and they start a kind of bucket list of things to do to claim their lives back. When she runs into two people from her home town, her world changes again as she starts to develop feelings that she has never had before.

Kayden is a football quarter back. Tall, handsome and was popular at school. He is a good guy, but his home life is far from perfect. He has lived like that for as long as he can remember and wants to escape too. He lives his life day to day and really doesn't portray his feelings, and he doesn’t want to FEEL. He has a girlfriend who is a bit nasty, but it makes it easy for him because she is so self absorbed.

Right from the beginning I loved this book when we see Callie and Kayden’s first real interaction. It isn't a pleasant scenario, but they form a little connection from it which they don't even realise, but the more time they spend together, the stronger it becomes. Neither of them realise the depth of pain and emotion that they hold inside and the need to share it with each other. The two minor characters are great too. Seth is Callie's voice of reason and because they have that bond they get on so well. Luke is a fun guy too, and doesn't hold back from telling Kayden exactly what he thinks. They both bring great things to this storyline and I’m glad that they had someone else to rely on.

Not only does the author show us some dark situations, but she also shows us what people may do to deal with it. It is very moving and passionate storyline and I found it extremely hard to put the book down. The chemistry between both Callie and Kayden is undeniable. I am glad they didn’t rush into things and they took the time to explore their feelings. That ending is a killer though, and I'm so glad that I have the next book so I can jump into it to see what happens now. The story is far from over, but I’m glad that things are moving like they are with Callie and Kayden.

I received a copy of this book from the Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

  4. I found this one pretty addicting. I wish it was a complete story, though, not a series. I didn't care much for the ending, and i didn't feel any need to rush out for the next one. But I loved reading about Callie and Kayden and I kept hoping for things to work out for them.
