With wings of midnight and an affinity for shadows, Jason courts darkness. But now, with the Archangel Neha’s consort lying murdered in the jewel-studded palace that was his prison and her rage threatening cataclysmic devastation, Jason steps into the light, knowing he must unearth the murderer before it is too late.
Earning Neha’s trust comes at a price—Jason must tie himself to her bloodline through the Princess Mahiya, a woman with secrets so dangerous, she trusts no one. Least of all an enemy spymaster.
With only their relentless hunt for a violent, intelligent killer to unite them, Jason and Mahiya embark on a quest that leads to a centuries-old nightmare… and to the dark storm of an unexpected passion that threatens to drench them both in blood.
I first became a fan of Nalini Singh’s back before I started my blog. I read all the books in both her Guild Hunter series and Psy/Changeling series and loved them. It has taken me a long time to read another book, but it was easy to fall back into one of the worlds that I love. Archangel’s Storm is Jason’s book and I was curious but excited to see behind the walls that the mysterious spymaster has put up. Raphael and his Seven have their secret, dark pasts and I love getting to know each and every one of them.
Jason is a 700 year old, beautiful tattooed angel, with wings as black as night. He is the Archangel Raphael’s spymaster and the best at this role as he prefers to be free and doesn’t like to interact with others unless it is part of his work. He is able to infiltrate places without detection and can slip away at the blink of an eye. There is so much about him that he has kept secret, but he has learnt to live in this world again, even after the tragedies that occurred when he was young. He is a man of few words and only speaks when needed. He could come to my rescue any day of the week, I tell you!
The girl that peaks his interest is Mahiya, the niece of the Archangel Neha. She has lived a very tough life under her aunt’s rule as Neha despises her. Mahiya comes across as a very shy and obedient girl, but the years of hardship she has endured has made her tough on the inside. She wants to be free one day and is making plans to ensure that happens. When Jason and Mahiya first meet you can see there is a connection between them, but they are more curious about each other and want to unravel the mystery shrouding them.
The plot in Archangel’s Storm is amazing too. There is trouble in Neha’s court and Raphael offered Jason’s services to her to unravel the murders. We know from previous books that the Archangels in the Cadre are developing further powers and it is interesting to see how they are all evolving. Neha has been through a lot as of late and appears to be a bit unstable, but it doesn’t stop Jason from working out the mystery. I was able to guess early on who the culprit may be, but it didn’t take anything away from the story while I was reading; I was captivated right until the very end.
And guess what!? Archangel’s Legion comes out next month… Raphael and Elena get another book!! Whoo hoo!!
I so, so, so need more hours in the day to read. You're making me want to dump all my other reads and start in on these. lol
