There’s optimistic. And there’s Jesse Walker.

If he wasn’t so charming, his sunny disposition and incessant grin would get old. Fast.

Falling in love with the broken girl who had at first seemed immune to anything resembling love was the best thing to happen to Jesse since the Walkers adopted him when he was five.

As Jesse’s life continues at the ranch and Rowen begins making her mark in the Seattle art community, they wonder where the middle ground is. Or if there even is one.

As push comes to shove, they’re forced to make choices neither are eager to make, and Jesse and Rowen have to face what their lives might look like without the other.

Can two people with such tragic pasts and different presents expect a promising future together? Whatever the answer, they’ll need a lot more than love to make it.

*Recommended for mature readers due to moderate content and language.*

Near and Far was a great sequel and continues 6 months after the finish of Lost and Found. It deals with the struggles of two people who are deeply in love and are trying to cope with a long distance relationship. It was a great extension from the first book as the characters have to deal with living apart, in different states and try to keep their relationship strong.

Rowen moved to Seattle to pursue her art education and has made a life for herself there. She has an apartment, a job and her studies are going well. She misses Jesse like crazy and they keep in contact over the phone and visits once a month. Jesse is adapting as well as he can and is still oblivious to the opposite sex. There is a new girl on the ranch who stirs up a bit of trouble and he cannot see what she is doing. But his love for Rowen never wavers.

I liked how in this book we saw more of the city life, not just the ranch. The circumstances and surroundings have changed but the love that Rowen and Jesse have for each other certainly hasn’t. They are working so hard on their relationship, but lately things are popping up that are putting pressure on them. Jesse’s past is trying to come back and haunt him, which in turn makes Rowen a bit insecure.

I enjoyed the continuation of this story and how the characters adjusted. We watched them struggle, to be strong and seek advice from the people around them. The adults in the Walker family are very wise and often have great life advice to hand out. Hell, even Garth stepped up to the plate!! It seems there are a lot of wise people on the ranch. Again, I enjoyed Nicole’s writing style, although it probably was at a bit of a slower pace this time. I did enjoy the alternating POV’s and seeing the inner workings of Jesse’s mind too. This book wrapped up Rowen and Jesse’s relationship perfectly. I am keen to get my hands on the next book, Finders Keepers as it’s Garth’s book, and getting to know him a bit better in Near and Far has me itching to know more about him!!
