Title: Shrouded in Illusion
Author: H.D. Thomson
Series: Shrouded series #3
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Published: June 2nd 2013Someone wants Skye Hunter’s son and they’re willing to kill her or anyone else to get to him. One the run for her life, she is forced to turn to the only person who can help her—a complete stranger with a shared past—David Bishop, a renowned illusionist.
David’s life is also an illusion, built of smoke and little else. He meets Skye, a woman filled with passion and conviction, and the pain he sees in her eyes is a mirror to his own soul. But when he realizes she has the same strange, telekinetic phenomenon inside her body that he does, he is forced to question his life, his childhood and the father who raised him. Can these two lost souls uncover the mystery behind their powers and save Skye’s son and themselves in the process?
Shrouded in Illusion is different from the usual paranormal books that I have been reading lately. It had more of a unique feel to it and I think that was why I enjoyed it so much. Instead of being jam packed with paranormal characters, we have people with supernatural powers – telekinesis – trying their best to fit into the world. Even though it is the third book in the series, it is easy to read as a standalone as it has different main characters from the other books in the series. It had everything I love in a fast-paced novel: action, mystery and romance.
Skye wants to do everything that she can to protect her som and has come to Las Vegas to find answers. She believes that she has found someone who may be able to help her as he appears to have some of the same qualities that she does. Skye was a great character and is willing to sacrifice everything for her son. She is determined to unravel all the secrets that affect her and her son.
David has lived a busy life with his magical show in Vegas. When Skye catches his eye he is determined to get to know her. Even knowing that she has a son doesn’t hinder him from wanting her. He is a good guy, but not the usual hero type person. He is honourable, however, and will try to protect Skye and her son as best as he can.
I enjoyed how these characters came together – mostly planned by Skye – but the more time they spent together, the more secrets from their pasts were revealed. The chemistry between Skye and David grew gradually and before they knew it they were relying on one another. H.D. Thomson has a writing style that is easy to read and you are quickly drawn into the plot. The mystery aspect throughout the story kept me on the edge of my seat and I was flicking through the pages to see what was going to happen next. It was a fantastic read and I would like to read the first two books in the series one day.
I received a copy of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review.
H.D. Thomson moved from Ontario, Canada as a teenager to the heat of Arizona where she graduated from the University of Arizona with a B.S. in Business Administration with a major in accounting. After working in the corporate world as an accountant, H.D. changed her focus to one of her passions-books. She owned and operated an online bookstore for several years and then started Bella Media Management. The company specializes in web sites, video trailers, ebook conversion and promotional resources for authors and small businesses. When she is not heading her company, she is following her first love-writing.
