Do you ever read a book and you get so caught up in it that you don't want to put it down? You have to force yourself to get some sleep, but you are so into the book that you dream about the characters? And when you wake the next day you are already trying to imagine what is going to happen next? That is exactly how I felt about reading Lick. It was funny, cute and oh so sexy.
For starters, waking up on the bathroom floor, after puking up everywhere to discover an unfamiliar man in your room, tending to all your needs would be weird, right? What about if you looked down and found a rock the size of Tasmania on your wedding finger, would that freak you out? And then to try and recollect what happened last night and realise that you were so drunk that you cannot, for the life of you, remember what happened? OMG!! Yup, that's how this whole crazy story starts, and gets better the whole way through!!
Evelyn I liked immediately! She has always been the perfect girl in the family and doesn't want to upset anyone, especially her dad. Not only is she smart, she is funny too. When backed into a corner she can hold her own and some of the things she said had me cracking up. She tries to keep things simple, but usually over thinks things and she tries to have a plan for everything! So for her to wind up married is definitely not in her plan! Considering what happened to her she dealt with it quite well … with denial! Watching the two of them try to come to some agreement about how to proceed was entertaining and the banter between them was hilarious!
David … OMG! After meeting him I have decided I want to marry a rock star (ssshhh … don't tell my current hubby!). He is oh so hot, and every girl on the planet wants a piece of him! Hell, I want a piece! When we first meet him, he is so sweet, then next he is an ass, but then he lets down some walls and we see how nice a guy he really is. I loved getting to know him better and I fell for him too. He is the glue of his band, the song writer and guitarist. Did I mention how dreamy he was? Anyway, you can see how much he cares for Evelyn, but he has some issues from his past that he is afraid will happen again, so he finds it hard to let Evelyn all the way in.
I highlighted 36 different sentences or passages in the book and I'm sure there were more but I was powering through the pages because I wanted to see where things would lead! The characters have a great connection and I was happy to see them work on their feelings. And when we get to those bedroom scenes … OMG! Scorching! This couple was hot and I loved reading every single word in this book! We met some secondary characters, two in particular are Mal and Lauren. They are both good people and tell Ev and David how it really is, they speak their minds and are great support. I hope we see more of them both soon!!
I have also read another book by Kylie Scott, Flesh and I really enjoyed it being a paranormal, but this one, being in the NA Contemporary Romance genre, I LOVED! I spent most of the time giggling and laughing throughout the book. The amount of witty comments they come out with had me cracking up! Being told from only one POV left a bit of mystery and suspense in the book as well, as I really wanted to know what David was thinking! I loved Kylie’s writing style and I fell into the whole world and was easily swept away! Lick was an amazing start to the Stage Dive series and I am totally on board for more.
